Puppies Downunder has developed a secondary and tertiary school work experience program to inspire the next generation of youth to animal welfare.
ABOUT OUR WORK
EXPERIENCE PROGRAM
Our work experience students will assist in the daily responsibilities of various employees. This may include manual work such as maintaining and cleaning animal areas, food preparation, routine health checks, animal observation, training and socialisation.

Students will finish their placement with a deeper understanding of our animals, and the responsibilities, care and knowlege required for their health and wellbeing.
​
A Certificate of Competence will also be provided for undertaking a number of duties similar to those found in the Certificate III in Animal Care Services.
All Students will be placed under the supervision of several staff members.
Please note:
Students may be required to perform physically demanding manual labour duties under supervision
Work Experience placements start at 9.00am to 3:00 pm Monday-Friday
and in all weather

All students are required to wear gumboots, long pants and long sleeve shirt. Tetanus required. Strictly no photos.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Victorian secondary and tertiary students aged over 15 years are eligible for the program.

HOW TO APPLY
To apply, students must:

1. Download a copy of our Work Experience Placement Role Description.

2. Submit a cover letter detailing how they meet the criteria listed in the
​
3. Read the Guidelines for Working with Animals and our
Induction Training Information, to ensure you have considered the
risks of working with animals.
​
4. Complete the Proposed Work Experience with Animals Form
and submit it for consideration to their school's Work Experience
Coordinator.

Certificate II in Animal Care
Do you want to work with animals?
This course is the perfect starting point. Learn how to care for all sorts of animals and understand the animal care industry.
​
Gain administrative skills related to the animal care industry, how to maintain records, provide reception services and communications. Through the online course and Structure Workplace Learning and Assessment (SWLA) you will also learn the key necessities of animal care – from proper feeding, correct hygiene practices, to emergency response and providing basic first aid to animals.

Certificate III in Animal Care Services
​
Would you like to work in an animal care facility or service?
​
This training will give you the skills and knowledge to work with animals in a professional setting. You will learn to handle and care for animals.
Some of the skills and knowledge you will learn includes:
identifying animal behaviours
interacting safely with animals
assessing animal welfare
providing basic animal first aid
complying with infection control policies and procedures in animal care work
communicating effectively with clients and team members.
